School For Christian Growth

IN-PERSON AND ONLINE

School for Christian Growth is part of First Assembly of God’s Christian education and Bible knowledge development ministry. It provides various twelve-week classes in a trimester cycle for learning, training and equipping in Bible knowledge, Christian growth, development and ministry. The objective is for every student to learn and experience 2 Timothy 3:16–17:

Every Scripture has been written by the Holy Spirit, the breath of God. It will empower you by its instruction and correction, giving you the strength to take the right direction and lead you deeper into the path of godliness. Then you will be God’s servant, fully mature and perfectly prepared to fulfill any assignment God gives you.”

Classes are designed to help students experience God; be made complete in Him; and be prepared and equipped for every good work for His kingdom.  We put in place teaching that is sound, anointed, practical and impactful to all areas of Christian life, walk and ministry. Students will:

  • Be TAUGHT the Word of God
  • Be able to APPLY the Word of God
  • Be TRANSFORMED by the Word of God
  • Be EFFECTIVE ministers according to the Word of God

We will be providing classes in-person and on Zoom for all Regions and their communities.  We are trusting that many lives will be touched, transformed and equipped for greater works for God’s kingdom.

STUDENT TESTIMONIES

How to Study the Bible

Candace Yee (Room 206)
Thursdays @ 6:30 PM

The Bible contains many warnings to believers of the dangers of deceptive teaching. In Matthew 24 Jesus warns Christians that in the end times “many false prophets will appear and will deceive many people.” So how can believers discern between truth and deception? The answer to recognizing false teaching is knowing the truth found in the Bible. In this class, students will learn practical and proven methods for studying and interpreting the Bible accurately through the student-purchased book, “How to Study the Bible.” If you want to learn how to increase your knowledge of the truth of God’s Word and be properly equipped to discern and reject deceptive teachings in these last days, then this class is for you.

Candace Yee has been attending First Assembly since 1998. She is married to Bob Yee, and they have two daughters, Lina and Alyssa, who graduated from Christian Academy where she currently serves as the school’s vice-principal. Her passion for sharing the truth of God’s Word with others has led her to teach a variety of School for Christian Growth classes over the years.

Neuroscience and the Fruit of the Spirit

Dr. Kore & Michelle Liow (Room 206)
Sundays @ 10:15 AM

If a good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit, why aren’t Christians manifesting more fruit of the spirit? Neuroscience and the Fruit of Spirit is a sure guide for understanding the physiological basis for spirituality and ethical behavior. Bryan Spoon offers a dialogue between modern neuroscience and the Bible to reveal the physiological changes that occur when life is centered on love, joy, peace, and other fruit of the Spirit. Neuroscience shows that our brains have capacity to rewire in as little as two weeks. The more our neural circuits fire together in a healthy way, the stronger these pathways become. The more our mind and will gear towards God’s Word, our whole person will become an expression of the fruit of the Spirit.

God is Working Exactly Where You Are!

Angel Fredeluces (Prayer Room)
Sundays @ 5:00 PM

Romans 8:28 says, “And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God, and are called according to His purpose for them.” Understanding this verse will change the way you live your life. Whether the circumstances in your life are comfortable, difficult, or painful, God has you where you are for His purposes. And His purposes include other people. Consider Joseph who endured suffering and injustice to be elevated to a place where he could save the Israelite nation. Or Esther, an unassuming Israelite teenager who became a queen to influence a Persian king to save the Israelite people. There are so many instances in scripture where what seems impossible is actually God working His plan for His purposes. That same work of God continues today in the circumstances of your life. Come and study the lives of the people of the Bible and see how it includes you today.

Resilient Faith: Learning to Rely on Jesus in the Struggles of Life

Emmanuel Orupabo (Room 207)
Sundays @ 5:00 PM

We all encounter problems and challenges on a daily basis, ranging from small things—traffic, losing your keys, or running late — to much bigger issues—job insecurity, health issues, and relationship struggles. What should a believer in Christ do in the face of such adversities? Authors Lewis and Sarah Allen propose that while the world may teach us one way to approach challenges, there is a better way—complete dependence on Christ and pursuit of wise living. With the help of the Holy Spirit, Christians are able to live more joy-filled lives in the midst of adversity. We will walk with the authors through key biblical passages as they relate to challenges and share stories, case studies, and illustrations to encourage us to rely on Christ and commit to His church in the battle of the Christian life.
